There is a problem with eggs where they get a grey mottled effect on the shell. This is not always present when the eggs are layed but appears soon after and can appear a day or two later.
This is prominent on some shop eggs and looks like a fungal thing, but i believe this to be caused by lice! They effect the shell when the egg is being laid and is still wet.
If you hold an affected egg up to a candling light or other strong light source, you will notice that the egg has significant light and dark areas on the shell.
Please try this out and let me know if this seems to be correct. The more feedback the better and if I am correct we can clear this up. This is only a theory of mine but it would nice to prove or disprove it somehow.
