Cream Legbar

General Information:

They were produced using  Araucana for egg colour, Barred Plymouth Rock to get the different baring to extinguish the difference between the male and female chicks at birth and Brown Leghorn for egg quality and quantity.

They are an excellent layer of sky blue eggs, carrying this colour  gene from the Araucana.

The male is lighter in colour and has a dot on the head.

The female is darker and has a dark band over the head and down the back.

History:

Automatic sexing birds were ‘made’ because of three main people,  William Bateson, (1861-1962), Professor Punnett (1875 – 1967) and Michael Pease. William Bateson was based in Cambridge; Professor Punnett joined William Bateson.

When William Bateson left Cambridge, Professor Punnett became Head of Department. And continued the work giving us the information we have today on automatic sexing of chickens.

Cream Legbars have a wonderful colour range from salmon pink in the hens through to cream and ginger in the cock.
